Where there's a will - there's a way to become a member of Svea! On May 8th, Amanda Davis was initiated into Svea Lodge #296. The ceremony took place at Chairman Pat's house, along with Cheryl, Lisa, and Lars. Amanda is a busy young woman - she just graduated from Pitt, is doing an internship, moving, and all the other things involved with being a college grad. But, she took time out to become a member of Vasa Order of America, Svea Lodge #296! Although the digital age will never replace good old fashioned face to face camaraderie, we were able to initiate 2 new members via Zoom. We welcomed Karen Wootan of Baton Rouge, LA on 5-15-23 and Sarah VanBuren of Fon duLac, WI on 5-25-23. It is a bit of distance for them to come to meetings but we are hoping that the value of Vasa Order of America will be appreciated. Who knows, maybe enough people in their areas will want to learn about their Scandinavian heritage and form their own Lodge! |
Our Charter was rededicated on May 21st, at the 109th Svea Banquet. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Charter and maintaining the traditions for another 109 years. We enjoyed a social hour before the buffet lunch was served. After lunch we introduced our 10 guests, distributed Certificates of Service to 3 members, celebrated the May birthdays, acknowledged our Benevolence to the Erie Humane Society, and members had the opportunnity to sign up for Midsommar and Waterford Heritage Days membership table. We then had words of rededication for our Charter, the Charter was read in Swedish by Lisa Owen and in English by Cheryl Brown. Bruce Elfvin, VP of the VOA National Archives, asked all members to rededicate ourselves to sustain and support the Vasa Order of America. All those in attendance, members and guests, signed a document that will be attached to the Charter for another 109 years. ![]() |
